The Golden age of Hollywood gave it widespread visibility, causing it to be left beyond that, for over a quarter of a century still spelling "Hollywoodland". In September 1932, 24-year-old actress Peg Entwhistle died by suicide by climbing a workman's ladder to the top of the 'H' and jumping to her death.
