REMEMBERING PEGGY SUE GERRON ❤️
On October 1, 2018, Peggy Sue Gerron passed away in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 78.
Her name became part of rock ’n’ roll history forever — but Peggy Sue was much more than the title of a Buddy Holly record.
The song we all know as “Peggy Sue” originally carried another name: “Cindy Lou.” Buddy Holly’s drummer and close friend Jerry Allison, who was dating Peggy Sue at the time, reportedly persuaded Buddy to change the title in an effort to impress her.

It worked rather well.
In 1957, “Peggy Sue” became one of Buddy Holly’s defining recordings, and Peggy Sue Gerron suddenly found her own name being sung from radios and jukeboxes around the world.
Jerry and Peggy Sue married the following year, in 1958. Their marriage eventually ended in divorce in 1964, but the song ensured that one small chapter of their lives would remain frozen forever in the golden age of rock ’n’ roll.

Years later, Peggy Sue would remember Buddy not simply as a star, but as one of the best friends she ever had. She even published her memoir, Whatever Happened to Peggy Sue?, drawing in part from diaries she had kept during those extraordinary years.

La cosa bella è che non partirei dal “#3 hit”: rende il post troppo da almanacco. Qui la forza è proprio “prima della canzone c’era una ragazza”. E con quella foto del matrimonio il collegamento Jerry–Peggy Sue diventa immediato.
